Nigerian Pastor Speaks Out : A Call To Action For Christians

Remember those in prison, as if you were there yourself. Remember also those being mistreated, as if you felt their pain in your own bodies.” — Hebrews 13:3

A Cry the American Church Can No Longer Ignore

While most of us in the West gather freely to worship, thousands of Christians in Nigeria are paying the ultimate price for their faith in Jesus Christ.
This year alone, countless believers have been slaughtered by radical Islamic extremists, entire churches have been burned to the ground, and families have been driven from their homes—simply for following Christ.

According to conservative estimates:

  • 25,000–30,000 Christians have been martyred in Nigeria in the last decade.

  • Over 15,000 churches have been destroyed.

  • More than 300,000 believers have been displaced from their homes.

The vast majority of these persecutions are committed by Muslim extremists—groups like Boko Haram and Fulani militants—while the Nigerian government largely looks the other way. One pastor recently wept on camera, calling on America and Donald Trump to intervene, pleading for the world not to stay silent as Christians are slaughtered in villages and towns across northern Nigeria.

The Blind Spot in American Christianity

One of my deepest burdens is how casual and disconnected much of the American church has become from this level of suffering. We often comfort ourselves with the belief that we will be raptured out before the world sees intense persecution. But our brothers and sisters in Nigeria, China, Pakistan, and the Middle East would answer us with a sobering reality:

“It’s too late for us to believe we’ll be immunized by a rapture from this kind of evil.”

While we debate prophecy timelines and end-time charts, they’re burying their loved ones for the name of Jesus. We have adopted an Americanized interpretation of biblical prophecy that assumes comfort, safety, and government protection are permanent. But the warning signs are flashing all around us.

Look to the United Kingdom—The Trend Is Clear

If you think persecution could never touch America, look to the UK. There, we see the rise of Islamic influence, attempts to enforce Sharia Law, and the silencing of voices that dare to speak the truth about radical Islam. Street preachers are arrested. Citizens are fined for “offensive speech.”

The same spirit that is persecuting believers in Nigeria is now pressing in on the West. America’s religious freedom has been preserved largely through the mercy of God and governmental protection—but both can change overnight.

What Can We Do?

1. Pray Without Ceasing

Pray for the church in Nigeria. Pray for supernatural protection, boldness, and revival amid the bloodshed.
Ask the Lord to strengthen their faith, comfort grieving families, and confound their persecutors with His mercy and power.

2. Spread the Word

Use your platforms to tell the truth. Share posts, videos, or reports of persecution. Tag your church, your friends, your pastors.
The world needs to see what the mainstream media won’t cover.

3. Prepare Spiritually

We must stop living as though persecution is only a foreign reality.
Jesus said, “If they persecuted Me, they will persecute you also.” (John 15:20)
We are called not to escape hardship but to endure faithfully—to overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony.
